Materials researchers whose projects will require nanomechanical and tribological testing at high temperatures - here's a handy new reference document which details the wide range of capabilities of Micro Materials Ltd's NanoTest Vantage and Xtreme instruments.
The instruments offer not only the opportunity to carry out nanoindentation at high temperatures but also complex scratch and impact tests.
With the localised heating approach employed in the NanoTest Vantage and Xtreme instruments, the rest of the instrument remains only a few degrees above room temperature. A benefit of this is that the SPM-nanopositioning stage next to the hot stage can be used throughout the temperature range. Images obtained at high temperature make possible precise indentation positioning at temperature or targeting of specific features such as pillars for micro-compression tests or cantilevers for micro-scale bending experiments.
