The study describes how a series of high temperature micro-impact tests was carried out by researchers at Cranfield University during a project to develop new, sustainable erosion-resistant coatings. The tests also included the randomised impact test pioneered by MML.
When used by manufacturers of aerospace engines, for example, the new coatings will reduce costs and also reduce the environmental impact of the engines.
