Recent achievements in reactive sputter deposition and thin films  were under the spotlight at this week's international symposium in Manchester on Reactive Sputter Deposition. Organised by Professor Peter Kelly, Professor of Materials Science,  Head of Surface Engineering Group and Director of the Advanced Materials and Surface Engineering Research Centre at  Manchester Metropolitan University,  Dr Glen West and Dr Justyna Kulczyk-Malecka, and held the The Manchester Metropolitan University, over 70 materials scientists discussed topics including emerging technologies in reactive sputtering, coatings for hostile environments,  high temperature coatings for superalloys,  and thin films characterisation.

Ben Beake, Director of Materials Research at Micro Materials Ltd was happy to present on using a particular new capability of our NanoTest instrument, which helps researchers to design better coatings for applications in sectors such as aerospace, automotive and energy.

For more details on the new capability illustrated in his talk at the event, please visit the Impact testing page of our website, where you can download the Technical Note "Spatially-distributed impact" .   https://www.micromaterials.co.uk/impact  - and keep an eye out for more new NanoTest capabilities coming in 2026!
