The recent Welsh trade mission event, hosted by International Business Wales (IBW), saw a number of innovative Welsh companies take part in what has become the biggest Welsh international trade mission to date. The week-long program included meetings with high-profile executives and engineers at Boeing, NASA, and Defence and Homeland Security, as well as some excellent presentations and workshops.

“The United States is Wales’ largest export market. That’s why IBW worked tirelessly to develop a high quality program that would position Welsh executives in front of key decision makers at prime targets for their respective industries,” said Ieuan Wyn Jones, Minister for the Economy and Transport.

“[The mission] gave us a great platform to pitch our unique approach to some of the leading researchers in the US” said MML’s International Business Development Manager Denise Hoban. “We provide a major advantage in terms of unique capability, flexibility and cost effectiveness, and I felt this came across well.”

During the mission’s visit to NASA Langley, presentations on advanced materials, nondestructive evaluation sciences and aeronautics systems, were given, before tours to see flight test articles, advance machine development, lunar habitat and surface manipulators took place.

During the one-day Boeing event, representatives gave a series of short one-on-one sessions during which MML presented their capabilities and interests to Boeing officials from across the company.

“This has been a great opportunity for the participating companies to learn about us, but it’s an even better opportunity for Boeing to learn about them,” said Brian Moran, director of Industrial Participation Programs for Boeing Defence UK

“IBW has really allowed us to establish fantastic connections within some major US corporations”, said Denise adding “it really was terrific.”
