The Micro Materials CORE range of test instruments are designed to suit high-end academic and corporate R&D laboratories whilst maintaining affordability for more repetitive industrial QC Applications. The range consists of five standalone instruments designed to provide top class performance at an affordable price.

The CORE range are compact dedicated test instruments which have been engineered to be straightforward and intuitive to use, whilst retaining the industry leading stability and data quality that Micro Materials have been known for over the last 25 years. Unlike previous Micro Materials systems, the CORE range are designed to be dedicated platforms for performing just one type of mechanical testing.

All CORE instruments are compliant with relevant industrial standards. For example, the CORE Nanoindentation system is compliant with ISO14577 and ASTM E-2546 and the CORE Nano-scratch tester is compliant with ASTM 7187-10 and ASTM 7027-05.

The CORE nanoindentation system is a dedicated nanoindenter which uses electromagnetic force application and capacitive depth measurement to measure the elastic and plastic properties of materials on the nanometre scale.

The instrument combines a wide force range (1 µN – 500 mN) with excellent resolution and high thermal stability to accurately measure mechanical properties and produce detailed property maps across  surface and depth-profiles.

CORE Microindentation

The CORE Microindentation system is a dedicated microindenter which uses electromagnetic force application and capacitive depth measurement to measure the elastic and plastic properties of materials on the nanometre and micrometre scale.

The instrument system is ideally suited for applications that require reliable and accurate hardness and modulus measurements over a wide length scale. It combines a wide force range (30 N) with very high stability and sensitivity not normally associated with a micro hardness tester.

CORE Nano-Scratch Tester

The CORE Nano-scratch system combines a wide force range with high measurement repeatability and accurate determination of critical loads and coefficient of friction. It is capable of both single pass scratch testing and multi pass wear testing up to a maximum normal force of 500 mN

The CORE Micro-scratch system combines a wide force range with high measurement repeatability and accurate determination of critical loads and coefficient of friction. It is capable of both single pass scratch testing and multi pass wear testing up to a maximum normal force of 30 N.

CORE Nano-Impact Tester

The CORE Nano-Impact Tester is a dedicated nano-impact instrument that uses Micro Materials unique high strain rate nano-impact capability primarily to assess the toughness and fatigue fracture resistance of thin films and coatings.

Nano-impact is fast becoming a valuable tool for examining coatings for a wide range of applications including tool coatings, DLC for automotive, photovoltaic coatings and many others.
